Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia

21 September marks the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia, a JINR Member State. The Republic of Armenia, as part of the USSR, joined JINR since its foundation based on the Agreement signed on 26 March 1956. As a sovereign republic, Armenia has been a JINR Member State since 1992.

Scientists from Armenia take part in 22 topics of the Topical Plan for JINR Research and International Cooperation. The collaboration covers joint research on particle physics, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, materials science, nanotechnology, and energy. Armenian employees are also interested in IT and Institute’s educational programmes.

For the second year, the JINR Information Centre has been operating at Yerevan State University ( YSU) and the A. Alikhanyan National Laboratory. JINR and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) regularly organize joint conferences and seminars.

On 25 – 29 April 2023, the International conference “Heaviest nuclei and atoms” took place at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia in Yerevan. The conference was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of a world-famous scientist of Armenian origin, Scientific Leader of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at JINR, RAS Academician, NAS RA foreign member Yuri Oganessian, with whose decisive participation 10 chemical elements were discovered. On 29 April, President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan hosted JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov and RAS Academician Yuri Oganessian as part of the conference. The high-level meeting was held within the discussion “Science brings nations together”.

From 28 May to 27 June, Armenian scientists took part in the 16th International Internship for Young Scientists from the CIS Countries in Dubna. It was organized by the International Innovative Nanotechnology Centre of the CIS countries with the support of the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of the CIS and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

On 3 – 9 September, the BLTP/JINR – SKLTP/CAS Joint Workshop on Physics of Strong Interactions took place. It has been held since 2010. The event was organized jointly by the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at JINR and the State Key Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
