In autumn 2026, the the Joint Institute will host the Rewind archival film festival. Organized as part of the joint JINR and Higher School of Economics historical and archival initiative, the event marks the 70th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.
If you have boxes of old film stock at home, out of town, or in laboratory cabinets – or if you have their digital copies – the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research kindly invites you to participate in the festival. The Rewind organizers are searching for unique materials that capture:
- historic events and other moments captured at the Institute;
- scientific experiments and work in the laboratories;
- everyday life in past Dubna;
- scientific expeditions, hikes, and tourist trips;
- family chronicles and friend gatherings of JINR employees.
Film and video recordings on 8 mm and 16 mm film stock, as well as digitised .avi and .mp4 files, are accepted. The organizers guarantee careful handling of the original materials and its obligatory return to the owners. Moreover, everyone interested is are offered free assistance with high-quality digitisation of stock selected for the festival programme. With the participants’ consent, their materials may be carefully storedat the JINR historical archive.
This autumn, the organizers will release a special festival catalogue and host a series of film screenings. The screenings will be accompanied by discussions and conversations with film historians, archival specialists, and employees of the Joint Institute.
