JINR Newsletter #17, 8 May 2024Dear colleagues and friends, Last week, the Joint Institute and the Rosatom Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation discussed issues of cooperation and joint projects. Strengthening ties with the scientific community from other JINR Member States was considered at a meeting of the JINR Science and Technology Council. In addition, JINR summarised the results of the 2024 expedition to build the Baikal-GVD Deep-Underwater Neutrino Telescope. Advisory BodiesSTC JINR discussed structure of international cooperation and personnel involvementOn 26 April, the JINR International Conference Centre hosted a meeting of the JINR Science and Technology Council. Participants listened to a report by JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov and discussed new rules of implementing international cooperation. In addition, a presentation of awards to JINR employees and Dubna teachers took place. READ MORE ➟CooperationJINR – Rosatom: cooperation development and prospectsOn 27 April, a meeting took place in Dubna to discuss the status and prospects of cooperation between JINR and the Rosatom State Corporation. As part of the event programme, a ceremony was held to present Rosatom badges of honour to employees of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. READ MORE ➟WATCH ➟ Flagship ProjectsAnother Baikal-GVD Telescope construction expedition on Lake Baikal finishesDuring the 2024 winter expedition, organized by JINR and the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, researchers installed another telescope cluster, deployed two intercluster strings, repaired and upgraded the previously installed detector elements, laid two bottom cable lines, and much more. READ MORE ➟ResearchDLNP JINR and Institute of Physics of SFU carry out joint research of Mössbauer Effect in amorphous solidsA DLNP JINR employee Ksenia Antokhina and scientists of the Research Institute of Physics of the Southern Federal University (Rostov-on-Don, Russia) are studying samples of ion-exchange resin to test the possibility of using the nuclear gamma resonance method to study the specifics of processes occurring in amorphous solids. READ MORE ➟Preliminary computations for promising JINR pulsed reactor madeThe JINR Publishing Department has issued a preprint “Preliminary Computations for the Pulsed Reactor IBR-4. Basic Composition”. The authors are FLNP JINR researchers Yuri Pepelyshev, Alexander Vinogradov, Anatoly Rogov, and Davaasuren Sumkhuu. READ MORE ➟JINR AchievementsArticle by FLNP JINR scientists among most cited works of international academic journalThe study by FLNP researchers Wael Badawy, Andrey Dmitriev, and Valery Lobachev, “Formation of reference groups for archaeological pottery using neutron activation and multivariate statistical analyses”, was published in Archaeometry, a prestigious scientific journal of the University of Oxford, and became one of the most cited articles in 2022-2023. READ MORE ➟ConferencesApplications for school on advanced methods of modern theoretical physics invitedThe event will take place at BLTP at JINR from 21 to 26 July. Participants – Master’s and PhD students – will listen to lectures on quantum field theory methods, stochastic methods, integrable systems and make presentations at the poster session. READ MORE ➟Rosatom awards presented at meeting on cooperation developmentDuring the meeting on 27 April, a ceremony took place to present badges of honour of the Rosatom Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation to the JINR employees. The participants discussed joint work in the synthesis of superheavy elements, the maintenance of the IBR-2 Reactor, the creation of a cyclotron complex, and other fields.
