JINR Newsletter #16, 24 April 2024Dear colleagues and friends, JINR representatives held a number of international meetings on cooperation development. Thus, projects in nuclear medicine, medical engineering, radiochemistry, and personnel training were discussed with the management of the Cuban Isotope Centre (CENTIS). The issues of radiation effect on polymers were considered at the JINR Infocentre at the Arab Atomic Energy Agency together with the Women in Nuclear Tunisia Association. In Russia, JINR research in nuclear materials science was presented to the scientific youth of Kazan. In the latest issue of the JINR Newsletter you will also find news about the next Collaboration Meeting of the MPD Experiment at NICA, the youth conference on fundamental physics and applied technology, and the results of the spring IT school.
CooperationJINR and Cuban Isotope Centre discussed cooperation developmentOn 19 April, CENTIS Deputy Directors Mr. Rolando Agustin Serra Aguila and Mr. Jorge Caridad Cruz Arencibia visited JINR. The delegation members visited JINR laboratories and met with the Institute’s leadership to discuss issues of cooperation in nuclear medicine, medical engineering, radiochemistry, and personnel training.
Issues of radiation effect on polymers discussed at AAEA InfocentreOn 22 April, an FLNR JINR researcher Ulyana Pinaeva presented a report “Radiation-induced modification of polymers for life sciences and environmental applications” at the webinar organized by the Arab Atomic Energy Agency, the Women in Nuclear Tunisia Association, and JINR. READ MORE ➟JINR research in nuclear physics materials science presented in KazanOn 17–19 April, a JINR delegation visited the Kazan Federal University and the Kazan Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences to discuss the development of cooperation. At the University, JINR researchers held a seminar for students aimed at promoting the JINR-based Department of Nuclear Physics Materials Science.
NICA13th Collaboration Meeting of MPD Experiment at NICA Facility continues at JINRThe event is taking place on 23–25 April at VBLHEP. Participants are listening to reports on the status of the NICA Accelerator Complex and the Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD). Plans regarding the commissioning of the complex will be considered. In addition, participants will discuss new ideas for the use of the MPD. READ MORE ➟ConferencesThird All-Russian Conference “Fundamental Physics and Applied Technologies” takes placeThe conference began on 22 April at the Engineering Physics Institute of Dubna State University. During the first day’s plenary session, participants heard reports by representatives of the enterprises of the innovative territorial cluster of nuclear and nanotechnology and the Dubna Special Economic Zone.
Results of Spring IT SchoolOn 15–16 April, MLIT hosted the second stage of the JINR IT School for students. Participants made reports on their work in JINR projects under the scientific leadership of VBLHEP, DLNP, LRB, and MLIT researchers. Ten authors of best reports received awards. Visitors can find books on physics by JINR researchers, books commemorating outstanding scientists, academician Ilya M. Frank and mathematician Alexey A. Lyapunov, and a wide variety of monographs. Komarov, “Physics in the circle of friends and colleagues”. The book is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the launch of the first accelerator in Dubna. There are two courses available: physics of elementary particles and fundamental and applied nuclear physics.
Summer educational programme for schoolchildrenInstitute of Physics of the Kazan Federal University invites schoolchildren of 6 to 10 grades interested in physics, mathematics, and IT to the Quantum summer educational programme. Registration is available via the website. JINR researchers on Russia-1 TV channel“Cardiogram for the planet: scientific innovations for predicting earthquakes” — this is the title of a coverage by the Russia-1 national TV channel about the precision laser inclinometers created at JINR. DLNP JINR employees Karen Bunyatov and Mikhail Lyablin explained how the devices can be used to predict earthquakes. WATCH ➟FLNR JINR on 360° TV channelThe future coverage will be broadcast on TV and in social media and will discuss a laboratory’s innovation — a composite material for wound treatment. JINR Nanocentre specialists Pavel Apel, Nikolai Dmitriev, Ilya Vinogradov, Oleg Orelovich, and Rozanna Ragimova spoke about the technology behind track membranes. Participants visited the ATOM pavilion dedicated to the history of nuclear science and engaged in other activities at the Russia exhibition.
