JINR Spring IT School started at MLIT

On 9–10 April 2025, the Laboratory of Information Technologies is holding the JINR Spring School on Information Technologies in a hybrid format. During the two days, students from universities of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus are presenting the results of their graduation papers based on the topics of JINR project activities.
Vice-Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Latchesar Kostov and MLIT JINR Director Sergei Shmatov opened the school with welcoming remarks. They greatly appreciated the large amount of work done by the students and their supervisors and expressed hope that the results presented at the spring school will become useful very soon. “Communication with young people is very important for mentors, as it is a source of creative energy and new ideas needed for research,” Latchesar Kostov said.
MLIT JINR Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov made a presentation on the organization of the IT school. The autumn school, which took place in October 2024, was attended by 58 students from 11 Russian universities and more than 30 lecturers from JINR laboratories and other scientific and educational institutions. It resulted in the formation of research teams for joint work on JINR projects, consisting of students, their supervisors from universities, and Institute’s employees. The spring school involves 33 young specialists from nine universities of Russia and Belarus.
The programme will cover six research areas:
- distributed computing in JINR experimental and theoretical research;
- mathematical modelling and numerical methods;
- methods and technologies of data processing and analysis;
- JINR Digital Ecosystem;
- JINR MICC support and development;
- engineering infrastructure: automation and monitoring.
The event started with presentations by students of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) and Dubna State University, dedicated to the development of the JINR Digital Ecosystem. Other talks were given by representatives of Saint Petersburg State University (SPbU), St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University (SMTU), Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), MEPhI National Research Nuclear University, the Dubna branch of Moscow State University (all in Russia), and the Sukhoi State Technical University of Gomel (Belarus).
Following the results of the spring school, the winners of the best presentation competition will be announced, some of whom will receive an invitation to give a talk at the Distributed Computing and Grid Technologies in Science and Education (GRID’2025) international conference at the Laboratory of Information Technologies in the summer of 2025. All participants will be granted certificates of completion of the school. The working language of the event is Russian.
