The dynamics of a hydrogen atom in a laser field is studied taking into account non-dipole corrections ~kr = ω/cz, which lead to non-separability of variables in the problem. It is shown that in the considered range of laser beam parameters (intensity ∼(1014-1016 W/cm2, pulse duration ∼8 fs, photon energy ∼(5-27) eV) the influence of laser polarisation on the excitation, ionisation, and acceleration of the atom is insignificant. However, deviation from linear polarisation leads to its twisting. A mechanism for n-photon resonance twisting of atoms with the transfer of helicity of photons of a circularly polarised field to them is proposed and studied.
