AYSS seminar at JINR Scientists’ Club
Seminars
On 28 May 2025, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6 Joliot-Curie St, left side).
A BLTP senior researcher Evgeny Davydov will deliver a presentation titled “Finding an application for a complex theory, or A theorist’s big temptation”.
Over the centuries, scientists have developed physical theories to describe observable natural events: rainbow, lightning, northern lights, etc. By the end of the last century, unexplained observable events had largely been exhausted, and ongoing observations were insufficient to understand the described ones. The speaker will explain what theoretical physicists do and how they do it in these challenging times. He will use a specific example (the physics of gravitational shock waves) to show the path from formulating a fundamental physical problem to obtaining a mathematical result, and the further journey.
