RSA-JINR Scientific Forum «10 Years Together»

From 28 November to 1 December 2016 at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria RSA-JINR 10th Collaboration Celebration & Ten-year Scientific Forum, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of JINR and the 10th anniversary of cooperation between JINR and the Republic of South Africa, will be held.

The delegation of leading scientists and JINR Directorate headed by JINR Director, RAS Academician V. Matveev (who will also present his report) will fly to Pretoria to participate in the forum. The representatives from all the laboratories and the University Centre of the Institute will be present.

South African Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor, Russian Deputy Minister of Education and Science Lyudmila Ogorodova and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Africa Mikhail Petrakov are invited as honorary guests to the event.

From the RSA side the delegations of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the National Research Fund (NRF), the National cyclotron laboratory iThemba LABS, the SA Nuclear Energy Corporation NECSA, University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) will take part in the forum.

The forum’s programme includes discussing the results of cooperation over the past 10 years, prospects for its further development as well as relevant joint projects.

On 28 November, simultaneously with the start of the forum, the poster exhibition will open, where the most essential projects within the framework of RSA-JINR cooperation (such as SHE spectroscopy, monitoring the environmental pollutants in the bays of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, development and study of new radiation hard scintillators for future accelerator experiments and others) will be presented. On 1 December, a session of the Joint Coordination Committee will take place. As the final part of the programme a number of visits to RSA research centres are planned: in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Stellenbosch.

For media representatives the interview sessions will be held during the Forum.
