Seminar topic: “The COMET Project: Realization Features, Development, Production and Testing of Detector System Components”
Speaker: Petr G. Evtoukhovitch
Abstract:
The COMET project, aimed at the search for the m-е conversion strongly suppressed within the extended Standard Model, will be realized in two stages – Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Phase 1 foresees the use of two types of detectors – a multilayer cylindrical drift chamber with two rings of trigger counters for registration of the m-е conversion and a straw tracker and an electromagnetic calorimeter for measuring the beam composition and background. Development and production of the pilot version of a straw tracker module, a ROESTI readout electronics board, as well as development of test benches for crystals and straw tubes will be discussed.
Also, particularities of an electron drift in a straw in the presence of a magnetic field perpendicular to straw axes will be given. The electron beam tests of the straw tracker prototype and the electromagnetic calorimeter will be described, and the test results will be presented.
