Seminar topic: “High energy physics in Earth’s atmosphere”

Abstract:

For a hundred years of cosmic ray research perfect instrumentation has been created and used in high-energy astrophysics, elementary particle physics, and now in geophysics. Do not stay on the glittering achievements in the first two areas, allowing the creation of a self-contained pattern of space and matter, the seminar will concern the third, comparatively new areas. I mean the modulation effects connected with the passage of cosmic rays through the strong electric field emerging in the terrestrial atmosphere during thunderstorms. Investigating the interrelations between fluxes of elementary particles, disturbances of the near-surface electric field, and atmospheric discharges lead to the discoveries of physical phenomena both of fundamental and applied nature. We report the progress in the high-energies physics in the atmosphere, achieved by the implementation of the methods of elementary particle physics and nuclear spectroscopy.
