Seminar topic: “Devices for Controlling Charged Particle Beams and Measuring Their Parameters”

Speaker: S. N. Dolya

Abstract:

Devices designed for scanning high-current relativistic proton beams are considered.
The conditions of uniform filling of a circle and a rectangle with a beam are determined.
Schemes for the formation of a sawtooth shape of the current in magnets have been developed.
The possibility of lowering the voltage on the deflector plates by passing currents through both ground and high-voltage plates is discussed.
The conditions under which the magnetic field introduced by the deflector into the acceleration zone is minimal have been found.
A scheme for the formation of a sawtooth shape of the voltage on the buncher which is a capacitive load for the generator has been developed.
The scheme of the degrader is discussed which makes it possible to quickly, without changing the absorber, change the beam energy by a given amount and change this absorbed energy directly during irradiation.
The control of the absorbed radiation dose is considered by measuring the beam current, calculating the time integral of the current and the current breakage when a given dose is reached.
The beam current measurement is possible both with a Rogovsky belt and with a pickup electrode. This is especially important during flash therapy, where large doses are used, released on the target in a short exposure time.
