Seminar topic: “Considering the possibilities of studying Drell-Yan processes in the PANDA/GSI and SPD/NICA projects”
Speaker: Anna Skachkova
Abstract:
The results of simulating leptonic pair production in collisions between an antiproton beam with an energy of Еp=15 GeV and the proton target, and also in proton−proton collisions at the energy of Ecms=27 GeV will be reported at the seminar.
Drell-Yan processes are of interest because of their uniqueness for investigating spin effects in hadron interactions. They also allow getting an access to parton interactions and extracting new information about the structure of nuclear matter. However, the extraction of the process under investigation from accompanying background processes is an uneasy and not always feasible task which will be discussed during the seminar. Characteristics of background processes will be presented and a number of kinematic criteria which can be used to suppress the background will be proposed and their efficiency evaluated.
