LRB JINR seminar: Molecular basis of intelligence

Seminars

On 3 April, the Laboratory of Radiation Biology at JINR invites everyone interested to a seminar “Molecular basis of intelligence”. The speaker is Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Chemistry, professor Sergey Varfolomeev. The event will take place at the LRB Conference Hall and online on Zoom at 11:30 AM.

The seminar under the scientific leadership of Evgeny Krasavin, RAS Corresponding Member, chairman of the RAS Scientific Council on Radiobiology, focuses on physical and chemical analysis of human neurosystem functioning at the molecular level. Current fundamentals that provide an understanding of the molecular basis of intelligence include:

  • knowledge of the structure of most neurosystem proteins at atomic resolution;
  • development of computational capabilities, including supercomputing technologies and computer analysis of systems of differential equations;
  • brain NMR spectroscopy and functional magnetic resonance imaging;
  • development of chemical kinetics as a methodological basis for the study of bioprocess mechanisms.

The work is based on experimental studies of the dynamics of chemical reactions directly in human neural networks, while the kinetics of non-detectable agents can be calculated in most cases.

Sergey D. Varfolomeev is a Soviet and Russian chemist, specialist in physical chemistry. Scientific Leader of the N. M. Emanuel Institute of Biochemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Director of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Bases of Functioning of Neuronal Networks and Artificial Intelligence, Faculty of Chemistry, Lomonosov Moscow State University.
