  1. Seminar topic: “Digital calorimetry in proton tomography”

    Speaker: Elena Akishina

    Abstract:

The usage of protons in radiation therapy is very promising because of more favorable for treatment dose distribution, which reduces the load on healthy tissue. The best method for such diagnostics is to apply the proton computed tomography (PCT). The use of digital tracking calorimeters is a new method in PCT, which allows to reconstruct a large number of trajectories of protons, and will therefore simplify the assembly of the system and provide more accurate information in clinical research. The development of a digital calorimeter prototype based on monolithic active pixel sensors (MAPS) includes the stages of designing the geometry structure and modelling physical processes using special software. Experimental studies for the selection of materials are required, as well as the application of mathematical methods to reconstruct tracks and subsequently obtain three-dimensional images.
