Seminar topic: “A new SRC measurement with polarised deuteron beam: preparation progress”

Speaker: Maria Patsyuk

Abstract:

Short-Range Correlations (SRC) pairs form when two nucleons come into proximity within a nucleus. Extensive studies of electron scattering have shown that most SRC pairs exhibit quantum numbers characteristic of a deuteron. Tensor-polarised deuteron studies offer a unique opportunity to explore fundamental aspects of SRC pairs, which are crucial for understanding nuclear systems, from atomic nuclei to neutron stars. An experiment using a tensor-polarised deuteron beam and a liquid hydrogen target at the HyperNIS experimental area has been approved by the 59th PAC. This study focuses on the hard quasi-elastic d(p,2p)n deuteron breakup reaction in SRC kinematics, aiming to extract polarisation observables. The results will address key challenges in high-energy and nuclear physics, including the relativistic description of bound systems, the S- to D-wave ratio in deuteron, final-state interactions (FSI) in the high-momentum regime, and the non-nucleonic components of the deuteron in polarisation measurements. This talk outlines the progress of the experiment’s plans and preparation.
