On 19 May 2025, the 27th international internship for administrative and technical personnel (JEMS) started at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The participants are specialists from Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, and Vietnam. The JEMS programme is designed to provide participants with a broad understanding of the Joint Institute’s scientific programme, international cooperation, educational activities, history, and social infrastructure in the shortest possible time – five days.

Vice-Director of the Joint Institute Latchesar Kostov addressed the participants of the internship with a welcome speech. He highlighted that JINR is a unique international intergovernmental scientific organization that unites researchers from more than 30 countries around the world. “Today, our Institute is recognized as one of the global leaders in modern research,” Latchesar Kostov said. “For almost 70 years, JINR has accumulated a unique scientific and technical potential for successful international R&D integration”. As the Vice-Director of the Joint Institute noted, the internship will provide participants with the opportunity to gain a full, comprehensive understanding of JINR’s research activities.

Director of the JINR University Centre (UC) Dmitry Kamanin asked the national delegation representatives to share their expectations of the JEMS programme. The participants agreed that the one-week internship in Dubna would help them to establish contacts with scientists from the Joint Institute and provide new opportunities for collaboration on major projects, thereby ensuring the development of international scientific cooperation between the JINR Member and Partner States.

The next item on the programme was speeches by JINR employees. JINR Deputy Chief Scientific Secretary Alexey Zhemchugov presented an overview of the scientific activities and infrastructure of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. Assistant to the UC Director Marina Tumanova delivered a lecture entitled “International intergovernmental organizations and multilateral research”. Next, the participants visited the Superheavy Element Factory at the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions and the NICA Accelerator Complex at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics.

The JEMS-27 internship will take place from 19 to 25 May. During the week, participants will get introduced to the research programmes and infrastructure of FLNP, MLIT, DLNP, LRB, and BLTP. On the final day, a round table with the Institute’s Directorate will take place at the JINR International Conference Centre to summarise the internship’s results. The invited specialists will share feedback on the programme.
