Seminar topic: «Significance of the singularities for channeling of ions through nanostructured materials»

Speaker: M. Ćosić (Laboratory of Physics, Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, University of Belgrade, Serbia)

Abstract:

Mappings of the ion impact parameter to the final transmitted angle and the final transverse position, respectively, generated by the family of classical trajectories, were analyzed. It will be shown that all important features of the channeling effect are related to the singularities of introduced mappings. When transmitted particles show quantum behavior, the same analysis is applied to families of the probability density and phase function, respectively. Some applications of the rainbow channeling: deducing the correct ion-atom interaction potential, realization of subatomic microscopy, characterization of the nanotubes, will be discussed.
