Abstract:

The concept of topological invariants is introduced which unifies such different fields as quantum Hall effect, topological insulators and antiferromagnetic spin chains. Two examples from our own research work are then given. The first one is the ab-initio prediction that HgS should be an anisotropic topological insulator. And the second is the experimental and theoretical study on a new class of metal-organic polymer spin chains composed of the zwitterionic quinone molecule and transition metals.
