60th meeting of PAC for Condensed Matter Physics

News, 24 January 2025

On 27 January 2025, the 60th meeting of the Programme Advisory Committee for Condensed Matter Physics (PAC CMP) will take place at the JINR International Conference Centre. The key topics of the discussion will be preparation for the launch of the IBR-2 Pulsed Reactor and the current state of its spectrometer complex.

Programme of the 60th PAC CMP meeting

Chair of the PAC for Condensed Matter Physics Dénes Lajos Nagy will open the meeting with a talk on the implementation of the 59th PAC meeting recommendations. JINR Vice-Director Latchesar Kostov will speak about the Resolution of the 136th session of the Scientific Council (September 2024) and the decisions of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States (November 2024).

Director of the Laboratory of Neutron Physics at JINR Egor Lychagin will talk about the progress in preparation to launch the IBR-2 Reactor. Head of the FLNP Sector of New Source and Moderators Complex Maxim Bulavin will present results and plans for the development of a mathematical model for the dynamics of fast pulsed reactors. Head of the FLNP Scientific and Experimental Department of Neutron Research in Condensed Matter Denis Kozlenko will provide an update on the spectrometer complex of the IBR-2 Reactor, including recent developments.

The PAC CMP members will hear the presentations entitled “Neutron tomography for structural analysis of cement materials, rocks, and meteorites” by an FLNP researcher Ivan Zel and “Analysis of the Aβ42 conformational dynamics in lipid membrane mimetics: spectroscopic and atomistic study” by an FLNP Nanobiophotonics Centre senior assistant Heba Esawii.

A poster session will take place as part of the PAC CMP meeting. The Committee members will select the best presentations and award the winners of the previous poster sessions.

At the end of the event, members of the Programme Advisory Committee for Condensed Matter Physics will hold a meeting with the JINR Directorate and prepare recommendations of PAC and proposals for the next meeting’s agenda.
