61st meeting of JINR PAC for Condensed Matter Physics

News, 25 June 2025

On 26 June 2025, the 61st meeting of the Programme Advisory Committee for Condensed Matter Physics will take place at the JINR International Conference Centre. The key topic of the meeting will be the resumption of the IBR-2 Research Reactor operation after a long shutdown and the development of its experimental facilities.

Programme of the 61st PAC CMP meeting

Chair of the PAC for Condensed Matter Physics Dénes Lajos Nagy will open the meeting with a talk on the implementation of the previous PAC meeting (January 2025) recommendations. JINR Vice-Director Latchesar Kostov will speak about the Resolution of the 137th session of the Scientific Council (February 2025) and the decisions of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States (March 2025). After that, the PAC members will meet with the JINR Directorate.

Director of the Laboratory of Neutron Physics at JINR Egor Lychagin will talk about the progress of works at the IBR-2 Reactor. He will present to the Committee members the final report on the project “Development of the IBR-2 Nuclear Facility with a complex of cryogenic moderators” and the subproject “Construction of a complex of cryogenic moderators at the IBR-2 Facility”.

Head of the FLNP Scientific and Experimental Department of Neutron Research in Condensed Matter Denis Kozlenko will additionally provide an update on the first results of the work of spectrometer complex after the IBR-2 Reactor operation resumption. A FLNP senior researcher Alexander Ivankov will discuss the progress of the YuMO Small-Angle Neutron Scattering Spectrometer.

FLNP employees will give scientific talks entitled “Magnetism and superconductivity in periodic and quasi-periodic low-dimensional layered systems” (researcher Vladimir Zhaketov) and “Conformational dynamics of amyloid-β42 in liposome under varying pH conditions: a combined spectroscopic and computational approach” (junior researcher Yersultan Arynbek).

In addition, the programme will include a competition of poster presentations on condensed matter physics among young scientists and an awarding ceremony for the previous competition’s winners.

At the end of the meeting, the committee members will discuss the PAC recommendations and make proposals for the next meeting’s agenda.
