Abstract:

General conference on weights and measure adopted a new system of definition of the International System of units, SI. The definition came in action on May, 19, 2019. The new definition related the SI units to the numerical values of the Planck, Avogadro, and Boltzmann constants, speed of light, elementary charge, and cesium hyperfine interval. Exact numerical values of those quantities are now adopted by definition.
The definition became possible because of tremendous progress in the determination of h, κ, and α. I will speak about that progress and about the way how the SI units are realized now. I will also speak about consequences for atomic, nuclear, and particle physics.
