AYSS seminar at JINR Scientists’ Club

Seminars

On 27 March 2024, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6, Joliot-Curie street, left side).

DLNP JINR Deputy Director Dmitry Naumov will deliver his lecture “The Standard Model: the most successful synthesis of contradictions”. This is the third lecture of the “From revolution to evolution in modelling physical reality” series.

The new idea presupposed that local symmetries predicted the type of interactions of quantum fields. Spontaneous breaking of these symmetries generates dynamical masses of “elementary particles” – excitations of quantum fields. Thus, the synthesis of contradictions led to the creation of the most successful quantum field theory, the Standard Model (SM). The SM unified the electromagnetic and weak interactions. The speaker will discuss the discovery of strong interaction theory and quantum chromodynamics. Key experimental discoveries that confirmed the SM will be discussed. The SM, however, was unable to explain dark energy and dark matter, as well as the baryon asymmetry of the Universe.

Please note there will be no coffee break before the event. The seminar will start at 4:00 PM.
