On 12 November 2021, at 7:00 PM, a documentary film “Sockeye Salmon. Red Fish” will be shown in the JINR Cultural Centre “Mir”.

After the film, a discussion will take place with the participation of the film’s director Dmitry Shpilenkov and the film’s producer Anna Sukhova.

“Sockeye Salmon. Red Fish” is a film about the beauty and power of wildlife, the eternal wheel of life that has been working for thousands of years, and the necessity to build our lives in harmony with nature without damages of the mechanism that ensures our prosperity.

In the 2000s, the scale of poaching in Kamchatka threatened to permanently destroy the ecosystem of the Kurile Lake – the place of reproduction of the largest shoal of wild salmon in Asia. This problem made the film’s director Dmitry Shpilenkov put off his camera for 6 years and personally join the fight against poaching as a part of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve operational group.

The film “Sockeye Salmon. Red Fish” was released 13 years later.

“Sockeye Salmon” is a precedent for many reasons. After all, despite sceptical attitude towards documentaries in Russia, the film found a response and was released even in difficult conditions of the pandemic. A rather local story that we told turned out to be understandable abroad, highly appreciated by critics, and “Sockeye Salmon” is being released in several European countries this autumn,” the film’s producer Anna Sukhova said.

Entrance to events in the JINR Cultural Centre “Mir” is possible only upon presentation of a QR code and a passport.
