First workshop of JINR Vietnamese Young Scientists and Specialists club
News, 13 March 2026
On 10 March 2026, the JINR Vietnamese Young Scientists and Specialists club (VYSS) celebrated its first anniversary at the JINR Scientists’ Club. The guests of the event got acquainted with the activities of the association and listened to presentations by the Institutes’s young employees.
The club was formed in March 2025 with the aim of uniting young researchers from Vietnam working at JINR and creating a favourable environment for scientific and personal development. The main goal of the club is to provide a platform where young specialists can exchange ideas and research experience, support each other, and actively integrate into the scientific and social life of the Joint Institute. Through scientific seminars, discussions, trainings, and cultural events, the VYSS encourages young Vietnamese people to improve their research and communication skills, to work as a team, and to participate in the activities of the JINR AYSS (Association of Young Scientists and Specialists). The club helps to strengthen ties and provides assistance in organizing activities within the Vietnamese community.
The anniversary was attended by the Head of the Vietnam National Group at JINR, a researcher at the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions Nguyen Van Tiep and the head of the JINR Human Resources and Records Management Department Alexander Verkheev.
Representatives of the Institute’s laboratories made presentations on the lives of young scientists in Dubna. Regina Kozhina, Chair of the JINR AYSS Council, a junior researcher at the Laboratory of Radiation Biology, spoke about the AYSS activities, along with conferences and cultural events organized by the association’s members. A Laboratory of Nuclear Problems junior researcher Truong Hoai Bao Phi presented a talk on the history of the VYSS and the activities carried out by the club. Scientific Secretary of the Laboratory of Neutron Physics Alexander Nezvanov shared his personal experience of combining scientific and public activities at JINR. In addition, he gave advice to young colleagues starting their way at the Institute. The programme of the event concluded with a talk on the settling of people from abroad to life in Dubna by an FLNR researcher Aniruddha Dey.
“The purpose of this workshop is not only to look back at the path we have travelled over the past year, but also to reflect on who we are as a club, to strengthen ties between the Vietnamese at JINR and, most importantly, to communicate with colleagues from other countries and learn from them. In my opinion, a national association like the VYSS can provide a tighter support network for colleagues from Vietnam who speak the same language, have common cultural roots and a similar professional path. In particular, the VYSS helps to adapt to life in Dubna by sharing experience of working at JINR and ensuring smooth socialisation”, the workshop organizer, an FLNR engineer Mai Quynh Anh commented.
