JINR-Cuba applied research and human development meeting took place in Havana

The event was held on 1 March in Havana under the chairmanship of the Plenipotentiary Representative of Cuba in JINR Dr. Gonzalo Walwyn Salas. The meeting was attended by the heads of several research institutes: Cuban Centre for Advanced Studies (CEA), Institute of Technologies and Applied Sciences (InSTEC), Centre for Radiation Protection and Hygiene (CPHR), Centre for Technological Applications and Nuclear Development (CEADEN), as well as young scientists.

Members of the JINR delegation provided general information on the scientific activities of the Institute, as well as spoke about the existing opportunities for young scientists and students to train at the Joint Institute. Cuban scientists with experience of cooperating with JINR shared their memories with the young employees and recommended the best ways to interact with JINR laboratories.

Alongside the event, the JINR delegation met with the management of the University of Havana, its lectors and researchers. The meeting was also honoured by the presence of Vice Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) Armando Rodríguez and Vice-President of Cuban Academy of Sciences Carlos Rodriguez Castellanos. The possibilities of developing cooperation not only with the University of Havana, but also with the Cuban scientific community as a whole were discussed on the eve of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cuba’s accession to JINR as a Member State.

On the eve of the meeting, a delegation from JINR led by Vice Director Latchesar Kostov had an opportunity to get acquainted with the infrastructure, scientific topics, and results of CEA, the Cuban Centre for Advanced Studies. The centre covers a wide range of research in the field of nanotechnology, being focused in the field of biotechnology and medicine.
