JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov becomes Honorary Professor of Moscow State University

The award ceremony took place on 25 January 2024 in the main building of the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) as part of the grand meeting dedicated to the 269th anniversary of the University. MSU Rector Victor Sadovnichy presented JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov with the diploma.

JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov received the title of Honorary Professor of Moscow State University for his great contribution to the development of nuclear physics and particle physics and for many years of fruitful cooperation with MSU.

“Dubna is a centre of nuclear physics and related sciences, and a long–term strategic partnership unites us,” Rector of Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichy said at the ceremony. He stressed that the Joint Institute and Moscow State University have been cooperating since 1961. In 2022 the decision was made to establish an MSU branch in Dubna and now active work is underway to fully open it. In November 2023, a joint meeting of the MSU-JINR Scientific Council took place. At the event, the scientific organizations signed an agreement on cooperation.

JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov expressed gratitude to Rector of Moscow University Viсtor Sadovnichy and members of the MSU Scientific Council: “It is a great honour for me to be on this stage today, I take this title as a high appreciation of cooperation and true scientific friendship between Moscow State University and JINR.” He thanked MSU teachers who also work as JINR professors, “The founders of Dubna are the professors of Moscow State University. I am grateful to the university, my teachers, and my Institute, that since 1996 I have found myself in particle physics. Now I work in a huge team of 5,000 people on unique, ambitious projects together with MSU.”

Education and Science Advisor of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the Russian Federation Gustavo Jose Cobreiro Suarez, who formerly headed the University of Havana, was also awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Moscow State University.
