On 2 September, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam celebrates the main national holiday – the Day of Vietnam Declaration of Independence. In honor of this event, on 4 September 2017, the traditional festive meeting of the JINR Directorate with Vietnamese staff members of JINR was held. On behalf of the JINR Directorate, V.A. Matveev heartily congratulated the Vietnamese staff members of JINR on the national holiday and wished them and their families good health, happiness, every success in work, along with prosperity for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

During the conversation, both sides expressed mutual opinion that it is possible to give new impetus to the long-standing and fruitful cooperation between Vietnam and JINR by increasing the number of young Vietnamese scientists working at JINR. According to Vietnamese colleagues, one of the important factors for the realization of this intention is the recent qualification of the Institute for awarding academic degrees, enabling Vietnamese youth to work in JINR on the selected research directions in the frames of postgraduate studies. The Vietnamese side expressed the highest interest and its serious intention to actively develop this form of cooperation with JINR, taking into account the large number of Vietnamese young scientists seeking to obtain experience in the modern scientific infrastructure of JINR. It was noted that Vietnamese scientists are particularly interested in work at the IBR-2 reactor regarding the need to train highly qualified personnel for a future research reactor. This reactor will be constructed in cooperation with the state corporation “Rosatom” in the frames of the project on establishment of the Center of Nuclear Science and Technologiy (CNST) in Vietnam.

The other identified priority for development of cooperation between JINR and Vietnam was to popularize the scientific activities of JINR in Vietnam, as well as in nearby countries of the region. This issue of mutual interest can be resolved due the authority Vietnam has in the region the fields of science and technology. An important step in this direction will be provided by the “JINR Days in Vietnam”, scheduled for the end of the year, which includes participation of JINR in the International Industrial Exhibition “EXPO-RUSSIA VIETNAM” in Hanoi on 13 – 15 December 2017. The exhibition will be held under the patronage of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation
