On 31 August 2018, the second competition Falling Walls Lab Dubna 2018 was held in the JINR Visit Centre.

The Falling Walls Lab project was developed in Germany in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall Fall. The project aims to provide an opportunity to young scientists, specialists and businessmen to present their scientific and research ideas and innovative initiatives to the world community. According to the project, these ideas should be formulated in a concentrated form as far as participants have only 3 minutes and 3 slides at their disposal.

The Dubna stage of the Falling Walls Lab conference was organized with the support of the JINR Directorate, the JINR Association of Young Scientists and Specialists and the State University “Dubna”. Young scientists from JINR, students and post-graduates of Moscow and St. Petersburg universities representing Armenia, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Turkmenistan as well as Bulgaria and Egypt applied for participation.

They presented their ideas on solving various problems of the present day, such as help to cancer patients, communication in the world scientific community, use of lithium-ion batteries and preservation of agricultural crops without the use of pesticides. The professional jury, which included representatives of organizations that are the main sponsors of the conference and the Moscow branch of the Helmholtz Association as well as well-known scientists from Germany and Poland, decided three laureates. Batyr Ovezov from Turkmenistan, a student of the Russian State Geological Prospecting University n.a. Sergo Ordzhonikidze, won the competition presenting the report on agricultural pesticides. The second and the third places were won by young scientists of JINR Meyir Erdauletov (Kazakhstan, FLNP) and Astgik Torosian (Armenia, LIT).

The winner of our competition will represent Dubna at the final conference of the Falling Walls Lab in Berlin, which will be traditionally held on 8 – 9 November 2018, on the anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
