Seminar of a Nobel Prize Laureate at JINR in Dubna

Seminars

A Seminar of 2004 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics for the discovery of asymptotic freedom in the theory of the strong interaction David Gross will be held at JINR on 25 March 2016, at 2.30 pm, in the Big Conference Hall of VBLHEP (bld. 215).

Abstract:

Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is the theory of the strong nuclear forces based on a non-Abelian (SU(3)) gauge theory of colored quarks. I shall describe some of the history of QCD in the 1970’s and its experimental confirmation. QCD is perfect because, by itself, it is essentially free of adjustable parameters, infinities and can be extrapolated to infinitely short distances. I shall discuss the outstanding experimental and physical challenges to our understanding of QCD and nuclear matter and the prospects for significant advances in the coming years.

For those who wish to attend the Seminar two buses will travel to the VBLHEP site at 1.45 pm, the pickup point is near the JINR administrative building (Joliot-Curie str., bld. 6).

The seminar will be held in the frames of the First stone laying ceremony for the mega-Science project NICA.
