On 15 September, the JINR Scientists’ Club hosted the presentation of The Attraction of Science–5 book by Azerbaijani journalist and writer Shirmamed Nazarli. The new anthology is dedicated to the many years of studies conducted by specialists from the Republic of Azerbaijan at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.
The author is Shirmamed Nazarli, an eminent Azerbaijani publicist, Head of the Department of Public Relations at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a member of the Union of Journalists, the Union of Writers, and the Union of Photographers of Azerbaijan. While collecting the materials, the author studied archival documents and photographs, along with conducting interviews with representatives of the National Group of Azerbaijan at JINR.
Head of the International Cooperation Department Otilia-Ana Culicov gave a welcome speech, expressing gratitude to the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan in JINR, Academician of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Arif Hashimov, on whose initiative the anthology was published. “What makes this book important is that it serves as a mirror, giving us an outside perspective on ourselves and helping us understand the power of the international community,” Otilia Culicov emphasised. “This work will serve as a source of inspiration for authors from other JINR Member States, who will have the chance to tell the story of their researchers who worked at the Joint Institute as well”.
Director of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, Coordinator of JINR–Azerbaijan Cooperation Evgeny Yakushev delivered a welcome speech as well. He drew a parallel between the new book and the Soviet feature film Nine Days in One Year, noting that both works are devoted to the people of science, their destinies, and their desire to change the world for the better. “This work is another important confirmation of the accuracy of JINR’s motto: science brings nations together,” the DLNP Director said. “I would like to sincerely thank the author for all the effort that went into creating this book, which preserves the memory of today and connects it with future generations of scientists. This is really important not only for the Joint Institute and Azerbaijan, but also for other JINR Member States”.
Shirmamed Nazarli expressed gratitude to employees of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research who participated in working on the book, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov for his comprehensive support, as well as to Director General of the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan Akif Alizadeh and Director of the Institute of Physics of the Ministry of Science and Education Arif Hashimov for the idea and curation of the project. He expressed deep respect for the efforts of researchers from Dubna and Azerbaijan to developing science in today’s difficult conditions.
“I am sure that despite any obstacles, all those who work for the benefit of science are on the right path, and nothing will prevent them from continuing their studies,” Shirmamed Nazarli stressed. “I am glad that this belief is shared by both researchers from Azerbaijan working at the Joint Institute and the JINR leadership, which created all the necessary conditions for them”.
At the end of the event, a ceremony took place to present the first copies of The Attraction of Science–5 book to JINR employees who made a significant contribution to its preparation and publication. This event not only allowed the audience to get acquainted with the new literary work, but also clearly demonstrated the importance of international scientific cooperation, which continues to successfully develop at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.
