On 2 December 2025, a ceremony of presenting the Russian Government Awards took place in Moscow. The winners of the prize for young researchers in science and technology are employees of the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at JINR, Candidates of Physics and Mathematics, a senior researcher Mikhail Shandov and researcher Ilia Nikolaichuk. The scientists were awarded for their work on correction of the leading magnetic field of the NICA Booster.

At the ceremony, diplomas and medals were presented to the laureates by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. In his speech, he mentioned megascience facilities under construction in the Russian Federation, including the deep underwater Baikal-GVD Neutrino Telescope and the NICA Complex, and highlighted the contribution of scientists from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

The head of the team Mikhail Shandov spoke about the prospects for experiments at the accelerator complex offered by the correction of the leading magnetic field. He explained that primarily, this work is aimed at minimising particle losses during their accumulation and acceleration, which directly affects one of the main parameters of the effectiveness of a physical experiment – the luminosity, or the intensity of particle collisions. “In addition, understanding the design of the correction system allows us to consider ways of its further development, opens up opportunities for conducting new experiments, and provides valuable experience in working with the Nuclotron and Collider correction systems”, the scientist noted.
