Abstract:
At the seminar, the results of simulation and optimization of a composite scintillator for thermal neutron detection will be presented. The interaction of thermal neutrons and gamma quanta with composites was simulated. The composites consist of glass scintillator particles, containing 6Li, arranged in an organic matrix. The purpose of these studies was to determine the structure of a composite with high sensitivity to thermal neutrons and efficient reduction of gamma signals. The simulation identified optimal structural parameters of the composite, such as grain size and glass concentration.
The simulation results demonstrate that the optimized composites can provide under thermal neutron irradiation the neutron detection efficiency of at least 50% with the gamma rejection of about 10-7.
