Abstract:

Weakly bound van der Waals triatomic clusters are the systems where a manifestation of the Efimov effect is rather possible. This applies primarily to the naturally existing helium trimer 4He3 whose excited state has been proven to be of the Efimov nature. We present the results of a series of our works devoted to the theoretical study of the helium trimer 4He3 and several other three-atom systems of the form 4He2X with X=3He, 6Li, 7Li. Our results were obtained on the basis of the numerical solution of Faddeev differential equations with realistic interatomic interactions and in many aspects are pioneering. For example, we were the first to calculate the phases and/or scattering lengths in collisions of atoms of helium and lithium isotopes with the 4He2 dimer. Our calculations of the binding energies of these triatomic systems are also among the first ones. In addition, we were the first to establish the internal mechanism of the emergence of new Efimov states of the 4He3 trimer from virtual states.
