At yesterday’s meeting of the JINR Science and Technology Council

On 15 November 2017, a meeting of the JINR Science and Technology Council was held in the International Conference Hall. Opening the Meeting Professor R.V.Jolos, Chairman of the JINR Science and Technology Council, greeted on behalf of all present A.V.Matveev who had been awarded the RF Order “For Services to the Fatherland”, 3rd degree, and National Order of Merit of France, Officer degree, and Academician Yu.Ts.Oganessian who had been awarded the RF Order “For Services to the Fatherland”, 2nd degree. Rostislav Jolos also congratulated V.A.Bednyakov, Director of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, on his 60th anniversary. Victor Anatolievich Matveev presented information on the latest significant events at JINR. V.A. Matveev particularly touched upon visits and cooperative events with countries where JINR membership may be renewed, activated, or documented with new agreements. The high level of JINR budget pumping up was also noted: this year it was 97 per cent. Coming payments and new system of accounting were reported.

In the report “Distribution of information about JINR activities” presented by JINR Press Secretary Boris Starchenko the review of JINR activities for 3 years was announced (from the moment of the last report on the results of the Scientific Information Department’s work at JINR Science and Technology Council Meeting): films, books, publications, cooperation with mainstream media, exhibitions, etc. The report evoked the largest number of remarks, additions, suggestions and questions.

A long-awaited event preceded by almost 2-year preparation happened. Members of JINR Science and Technology Council chose the final version of JINR Code of Professional Ethics by a majority vote. Thus, they showed to JINR Director that they recommend that this set of rules for JINR employees be adopted.

The third report presented by G.D.Shirkov, Corresponding Member of RAS, covered the Medical Accelerator that is under construction in China for Dubna. The project, its progress, preliminary terms and plans that are to be fulfilled to replace the Phasotron by modern accelerator for getting medical beam were presented.
