On 28 – 29 February 2020, the XXIV Open Dubna Swimming Competition took place in the “Archimedes” swimming pool. The competition was dedicated to the memory of Academician Georgy N. Flerov.

Honorary guests of the event, namely Head of the Social Infrastructure Management Office Andrey Tamonov, Director of the JINR Sports Complex and the JINR swimming pool “Archimedes” Vladimir Lomakin, Head of the Department of Culture and Sport of the Dubna City Administration Gennady Minaev and a representative of a JINR partner, Director of the bank “Otkrytie” in Dubna Ekaterina Lopareva attended the event. They delivered welcoming speeches at the opening ceremony and spoke about a considerable contribution G. N. Flerov made to world science, to the development of swimming in Dubna. Georgy Nikolaevich actively participated in the construction of the “Archimedes” swimming pool.

More than 200 swimmers from 16 teams of Dubna, Moscow, cities of the Moscow, Tver and Ivanovo regions competed on the first day of the event. Two sportsmen celebrated their birthdays just on the swimming paths of the “Archimedes” swimming pool. A swimmer from Dubna Danila Shilov received congratulations on his 15th anniversary. A swimmer from Dmitrov Varvara Luchkova celebrated her 14th anniversary. We congratulate Danila and Varvara on their birthdays and wish them good health, strengths and high results in sports!

On the second day of the competitions, the number of participants increased. Sportsmen of the Masters clubs “element 105”, Redbee Masters, “Force Line” who did not manage to take part in the first day of the competition because of work.

After the competitions, Director of the Sports School “Dubna” Alexey Charykov and Director of the “Archimedes” swimming pool Vladimir Lomakin held the award ceremony: they presented cups, medals and diplomas to the winners and laureates.
