First foreign branch of the NRNU MEPhI opened in Tashkent

On 3 September 2019, the opening ceremony of the first foreign branch of the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” was held in Tashkent. The festive opening ceremony was organized on the platform of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Director-General of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev, leaders of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Rector of the NRNU MEPhI Mikhail Strikhanov, scientists, and other honoured guests took part in the event.

The branch of the NRNU MEPhI in Tashkent is established based on the agreement between the Presidents of Russian and Uzbekistan in the frames of the project of the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

Admission of first students to the Tashkent branch of the NRNU MEPhI was carried out for four training programmes in the fields of nuclear energy. 100 students were admitted to the University. Six or seven persons competed for one place in the MEPhI branch. The syllabi for each educational field were developed in the NRNU MEPhI with the participation of the “UzAtom” Agency, a major employer of specialists in the field. NRNU MEPhI Rector Mikhail Strikhanov expressed his gratitude to Minobrnauki, Rosatom and Rosobrnadzor for their effective assistance in the opening of the foreign branch of the University.
