JINR at the exposition “Megascience: Russia in the World— Russia for the World”

As part of the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students, which is being held in Sochi, October 15 – 22, 2017, the exhibition site of the Ministry of Education and Science “Megascience: Russia in the World – Russia for the World” is open.

Within the framework of the Festival the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation presents a number of exhibition and discussion sites, such as the “Megascience: Russia in the World – Russia for the World” projects exposition, where leading European and Russian research centers and projects are presented in an exciting and youth friendly form, and where Russia’s role in these international projects is explained. The exposition of the Ministry of Education and Science offers lectures by eminent Russian and foreign scientists, robotics competitions for youngsters, VR-films, 3D models of scientific centers, and video presentations. Each guest has the opportunity to learn more about the structure, goals and achievements of any project using interactive technologies as well as the opportunity to consult about the prospects of work within each scientific project.

JINR participates actively in the exposition “Megascience: Russia in the World – Russia for the World”, where the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research presents its megascience flagship project – the accelerator complex NICA. Young JINR staff members, represented by Pavel Batyuk (VBLHEP), Boyana Dabrovska (VBLHEP), Nikita Sidorov (VBLHEP), Krystian Roslon (VBLHEP) and Yulia Rybachuk (UC) personify the Institute’s slogan by uniting Poland, Bulgaria and Russia in their international team. In addition to the NICA project, JINR also presents its educational programmes and opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. On the second day of the exhibition staff members of the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics JINR Anatoly Sidorin, Oleg Rogachev and Elena Khabarova joined the JINR team to participate in the exhibition.

The exposition of the Joint Institute is of great interest not only to young participants of the Festival who interested in science, but also to distinguished guests who have already done a significant contribution to science. So the JINR exposition was visited by George Fitzgerald Smoot, an American astrophysicist and cosmologist who won the Nobel prize in physics in 2006. The JINR exposition was also visited by Minister of Education of Cuba Jose Ramon Saborido, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education Vyacheslav Nikonov, Deputy Minister of education and science of the Russian Federation Pavel Zenkovich Deputy and Deputy Head of the Information and Public Relations Office of the Kursk NPP Alexander Prytkov.

The festival is aimed at the consolidation of the international youth movement by promoting and strengthening international relationships and developing cross-national and cross-cultural collaboration. A key concern of the Festival is addressing the issues of the most pressing challenges facing the young generation by discussions, cultural programme, sport competitions and open communication.

By organizing the exposition “Megascience: Russia in the World – Russia for the World”, The Ministry of Education and Science of Russia aims at demonstrating the scientific and technological level of Russia, sharing frontier scientific experience, reaching out to foreign participants of the Festival to demonstrate the achievements of Russian science.
