JINR on the background of Russian Science Day

This year, the name of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was repeatedly mentioned in the media on the Day of Russian Science. Such flagship projects of the Institute as the NICA collider, the BAIKAL-GVD deep underwater neutrino telescope, as well as the synthesis of superheavy elements have earned the attention of journalists.

Thus, JINR Director Academician Grigory Trubnikov in his large interview for the TASS news agency said about JINR plans to synthesize elements 119, 120, and 121 of the Periodic Table. This flagship realm of JINR scientific studies has been also reflected in special news coverage by Russia-24 “Atom for the future”. JINR Director in his interview to TASS spoke about the upcoming launch of the unique neutrino telescope BAIKAL-GVD scheduled for March 2021 and about plans to launch the second stage of the NICA collider. These two landmark events were included in the programme of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia – 2021 declared by the Russian President.

JINR scientific achievements were also mentioned today at the meeting of the Presidential Council for Science and Education of Russia.

The NICA collider is among the key elements of the Russian scientific infrastructure according to the Channel One of Russian television. Moreover, RIA news included the launch of the first stage of the NICA collider in the list of the most important events of Russian science in 2020.

It is common to celebrate achievements of scientists on Science Day so this year, we have a reason to rejoice in the achievements of our friends. Thus, the superfinalist of the competition “Leaders of Russia 2020”, the finalist of the field “Science” was Dean of the Physics and Technology Department of the North Ossetian State University, Head of the Centre of Youth Innovation Art “FabLab” Inga Tvauri. I. Tvauri sees popularization of scientific and technical knowledge as one of the priorities of her activities. She carries it out on the basis of the JINR Information Centre in the South of Russia established in 2018.

Moreover, on this festive day, the Joint Institute welcomed guests: school children had an excursion to the Museum of History of Science and Technology of JINR. Their visit was organized by the “Nauka-Svayz” company.

And finally, tonight, at the end of the Science Day, the TVC TV channel will broadcast a special news coverage dedicated to the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and its mega-science project NICA.
