Meetings in Slovakia

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Šafárik University in Košice (the Slovak Republic).

On 20 May, a special anniversary meeting of the Academic Council of the Faculty was held in the hall of the City Philharmonic Society of Košice, attended by representatives of many educational institutions from Slovakia and from a number of foreign universities. Professor A. Malakhov attended the meeting, representing JINR, and was awarded a bronze medal of the faculty: “For achievements in training of students in the field of relativistic nuclear physics”, as written in the diploma provided with the medal. Medals were also awarded to a number of university researchers, and representatives of other universities of Slovakia. On behalf of the JINR Directorate, A. Malakhov greeted the meeting with a welcoming speech and handed over a congratulatory address signed by JINR Director Academician V.A. Matveev to the faculty dean, professor Gabriel Semanishin. The address highly appreciated successful long-term cooperation between the Šafárik University in Košice and JINR, which continues to develop. The address ended with the words: “In these festive days, we wish you and all your colleagues the best health, success in scientific and teaching activities, new interesting endeavors, family happiness, and prosperity.” After the official ceremony, professor A. Malakhov met with colleagues from the Šafárik University and discussed plans for further cooperation.

P.S.: On the day when celebrations took place in Košice, an equally solemn event took place in Bratislava. Professor Zuzana Dubnichkova, a researcher well-known in Dubna, who is a member of the JINR Scientific Council, became one of the winners of the national competition Slovene-2013 in the nomination “Training young talents”. Professor A. Malakhov had the honour to meet Miss Slovene-2013 and congratulate her personally on behalf of Dubna’s colleagues.
