New JINR Information Centre opened in North of Russia

On 18 March 2022, a festive opening ceremony of the Information Centre of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov (NArFU) took place. Representatives of the JINR Directorate headed by JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov and leading scientists of the Joint Institute arrived in Arkhangelsk to take part in the opening ceremony of the JINR Information Centre.

Commenting on the opening of the Infocentre at NArFU, JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov said the following, “Today, we have opened the JINR Information Centre at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov. This is not just an office, nor a set of equipment and science popularising materials. It is a hub between Dubna and Arkhangelsk. It includes virtual tours of all the basic facilities of the Institute and provides students with an opportunity to listen to lectures by specialists and experts from Dubna, to carry out online laboratory works and workshops. Moreover, Arkhangelsk will be able to interact with other JINR Information Centres in Rostov-on-Don, Moscow, Vladivostok, Sofia, Cairo, etc. and become a member of the big international scientific family of JINR distributed around the world but working on common tasks.”

Upon the decision of the Scientific Council of the University as of 16 March 2022, Grigory Trubnikov was awarded the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov” for his considerable contribution to the development of science and education.

The newly opened Information Centre (IC) aims to become another local representative and intermediary of JINR in the fields of science and education, a centre for attracting potential partners, staff members, and students, an initiator of events for increasing recognition of JINR. The key task of the IC is popularisation of the results of international studies achieved at JINR, career guidance and involvement of the youth into science, including at the stage of school education.

The working programme of the event started on 17 March with a public lecture by DLNP Chief Engineer Sergey Yakovenko “Proton therapy at the Phasotron of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems JINR”. Then, the programme was continued with reports by JINR representatives, namely by Head of the International Cooperation Department of JINR Dmitry Kamanin, Scientific Secretary of the Laboratory of Radiation Biology Igor Koshlan, Advisor to the FLNP JINR Directorate Marina Frontasyeva, Deputy Head for Science of the DLNP JINR Centre of Applied Physics Alexander Nechaev, and UC JINR Deputy Director Alexander Verkheev.

As part of the programme, JINR representatives visited the centre of collective use of scientific equipment “Arctic”, the Innovation Center “Arctic Oil and Gas Laboratory Research”, the centre of additional children’s education “House of Scientific Collaboration”, the ITC “Modern Technologies for Processing of Bioresources of the North”, the Centre of Cognitive Technologies, and the Laboratory of Molecular Phylogenetics and Ecology. Moreover, participants of the event opened the laboratory of microclonal plant propagation and the laboratory of diagnostics of carbon materials and spin-optical phenomena in wide-band semiconductors.
