On the stop of the IBR-2

News, 08 June 2018

On 16 May 2018, physics experiments at the IBR-2 nuclear research facility were stopped because of a malfunction of technological equipment of the 2nd loop of the sodium cooling system. During the event, the prescribed IBR-2 safe operating limits were not exceeded, and there are no negative consequences for the staff and the environment.

For the period of repair works, the IBR-2 reactor is switched to a temporary shutdown mode. Bringing the IBR-2 nuclear facility to operation at the power of 2 MW is planned for the end of 2018.
