Visit to JINR of Ambassador of the Czech Republic

On 26 March 2015, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to RF Vladimir Remek participated in the festive events on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of foundation of JINR; Vladimir Remek is the first cosmonaut of Czechoslovakia and the first man in space, who is not a citizen of the USSR or the USA.On March 27, the Ambassador visited the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, met with DLNP Director S.N. Dmitriev, was acquainted with the research program of the Laboratory, and visited the basic facilities as well as the Center of Applied Physics. The Ambassador said the visit made a big impression on him.

The visit of the Ambassador to JINR was finished with a meeting with JINR Director V.A. Matveev and leaders of the institute. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Czech Republic at the Committee of Plenipotentiaries consisting of Plenipotentiary Representative of the Czech Republic in JINR J. Dobeš, his Deputy I. Štekl, Senior Specialist of the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic and Director General of the Czech company VAKUUM Praha P. Hedvábný, as well as Head of the national group of the Czech Republic A. Kovalík and his Deputy V. Chudoba. The parties discussed the status of cooperation between the Czech Republic and JINR in the fields of science, high-tech equipment procurement in the Czech Republic, educational programs, including not only the diploma and PhD work performed by Czech students at JINR, but also the work performed by students from JINR Member States in the Czech Republic. The sides discussed ways of further development of cooperation from the point of view of development of the new basic facilities: the NICA complex and the factory of super heavy elements.

The Ambassador expressed his wish to make a two-day visit to JINR in the future for a more detailed acquaintance with JINR laboratories. In his turn, the JINR Director handed to the Ambassador of the Czech Republic a letter of invitation for the President of the Czech Republic to visit JINR at his convenience; the letter was accepted with gratitude and the promise of assistance from the Embassy of the Czech Republic.
