Registration for the RACIRI School 2018 is open

News, 16 April 2018

We are glad to invite young scientists of JINR aged less than 35 as well as senior students and post-graduate students to take part in the 6th International Summer School “From Basic Science and Applications to Technologies inspired by Nature” (RACIRI 2018).

The School will be held from 25 August to 1 September 2018 on Rügen Island, Germany, and will cover synchrotron and neutron methods applied for development of nature-inspired technologies.

The RACIRI Summer School is a joint project of the NRC “Kurchatov Institute” (Russia), the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY, Germany), and the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsradet).

The programme of all RACIRI Summer Schools comprises, in addition to educational section, sufficient time for social and cultural activity for participants. The General framework scientific programme of RACIRI includes basic lectures on fundamental and theoretical foundations of phenomena and special lectures dedicated to use of neutron and X-ray methods of research. The poster session and competitions for young scientists are also in the programme. Participants presenting the best reports are awarded prizes.

Internationally renowned scientists and world-leading experts from the relevant fields are invited as lecturers and tutors.

The NRC “Kurchatov Institute” forms a Russian delegation of RACIRI participants from representatives of Russian scientific and educational organizations on a competitive basis. Those wishing to participate in the RACIRI 2018 Summer School should apply to the Organizing Committee until 18 May 2018 by filling in a registration form on the website of the NRC “Kurchatov Institute”.

Nowadays, a set of experimental mega-facilities is under construction and will be soon brought into operation in Europe for conducting research using X-ray and neutron methods. The following facilities are among them: XFEL in Hamburg (Germany), ESS and Max-IV in Lund (Sweden), PIC in the NRC “Kurchatov Institute” (Gatchina, Russia).

In this regard, the task of training scientists able to maximize potential of the unique research infrastructure being developed is of particular importance. For this purpose various scientific events for the youth are organized annually, among which the RACIRI Summer School occupies a special place.

Three countries jointed their efforts and launched the new Summer School “RACIRI” in 2013. The main audience of the summer school RACIRI is represented by senior students, post-graduate students and young scientists aged not more than 35 from three partner-states. Every year, the RACIRI Summer School is held by one of the organizing countries, and a new central topic is chosen.

We are glad to remind you

In frames of the FLASH and XFEL international projects, JINR physicists participate in development of diagnostic systems of ultra-short bunches in the linear accelerator, X-radiation and large cryogenic systems. European XFEL, the world-biggest x-ray free-electron laser, was brought into operation in May 2017 in Hamburg where in September 2017, inauguration of the XFEL was held.
