The 123rd Session of the JINR Scientific Council

On 22 – 23 February 2018, the 123rd Session of the JINR Scientific Council will be held in the International Conference Hall. The Session will be opened by JINR Director Academician V.A.Matveev. Then, Academician Matveev will deliver the report on decisions made at the session of the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries (held in November 2017) as well as on the scientific results achieved in 2017 and major events in life of JINR.

There will be organized appointment of the committee for the election of Directors of the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics and of the Laboratory of Information Technologies and for the endorsement of the appointment of Deputy Directors of the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics.

The programme of the first day of the Session comprises three reports: “SOLCRYS — new laboratory for structural research at the Polish synchrotron SOLARIS: proposed concept” by M. Stankiewicz, “Complementarity between neutron and synchrotron X-ray scattering, the potential of the synergy between IBR-2 and SOLARIS” by V.N. Shvetsov, “Status and future development of the Laboratory of Information Technologies” by V.V. Korenkov.

In the afternoon, election of FLNP and LIT Directors and endorsement of the appointment of Deputy Directors of BLTP will be held as a closed event. The procedure presupposes recommendations delivered by the election committee and confirmation of appointments, presentations by the candidates for the positions, discussion of them and secret ballot.

Members of the Scientific Council will be acquainted with the recommendations of the PACs adopted at the meetings in January 2018 that will be presented by PAC chairpersons. The first day of the session will be finished with the reports “NuPECC long-range plan “Perspectives in Nuclear Physics” by A. Bracco and “NuPECC and follow-up of the European long-range plan in nuclear physics” by M. Lewitowicz.

On 23 February 2018, reports by young scientists recommended by the PACs will be delivered: “Sensitive neutron detection method using iodine-containing scintillators” by D. Ponomarev, “Fullerene-based complexes in solutions for anticancer therapy and neurodegenerative diseases” by M. Avdeev, “Limit on the effective magnetic moment of solar neutrinos using Borexino data” by A. Vishneva.

A. Olshevskiy will outline jury’s recommendations on the award of the B. Pontecorvo Prize. R. Lednický will announce jury’s decision on the award of JINR annual prizes for best papers in the fields of scientific research, instruments and methods, and applied research. V.A. Matveev will announce vacancies of positions in the directorates of JINR Laboratories.
