Seminar topic: “Research & development programme for proton therapy in Argentina”
Speaker: Andrés Arazi, Jesús Figari (TANDAR Laboratory, Atomic Energy National Commission, Argentina)
Abstract:
The Argentine Proton Therapy Center — the first facility of its kind in Latin America — features a 230 MeV IBA™ cyclotron, two clinical treatment gantries, and a dedicated research and development beamline. Its imminent commissioning has triggered a range of radiobiological and physical research activities in the field of proton therapy.
In this presentation, we will provide a brief overview of the main research facilities operated by the Argentine National Atomic Energy Commission, along with the key characteristics of the new Proton Therapy Center. We will then focus in particular on our project: the implementation of an external vertical proton beam for in vitro therapy tests using a 10 MV tandem accelerator.
