AYSS seminar at JINR Scientists’ Club
Seminars
On 21 January 2026, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6 Joliot-Curie St, left side).
An VBLHEP senior researcher Andrei Zaitsev will deliver a presentation titled “Nuclear photography: from discovering radioactivity to searching for dark matter”.
The lecture explores the history of nuclear emulsions, a technology that allowed scientists to see the invisible world of elementary particles. From Henri Becquerel’s accidental discovery of radioactivity in the late 19th century to experiments at the largest scientific facilities of the 21st century, nuclear emulsions played a key role in the development of microscopic physics. Why didn’t this seemingly “old-fashioned” method disappear with the advent of electronic detectors, but experienced a renaissance thanks to modern microscopes and computer technology?
