AYSS seminar at JINR Scientists’ Club

Seminars

On 22 October 2025, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6 Joliot-Curie St, left side).

A VBLHEP junior researcher Yuri Kopylov will deliver a presentation titled “Planar silicon detectors”.

Semiconductor materials became the foundation of the civilisation of the 21st century, defining the development of computing and communications. This lecture will provide an insight into the history of the discovery and study of these unique materials. The speaker will thoroughly explain the reasons why silicon is widely used in microelectronics and the essence of planar technology, which underlies the production of all modern microchips. Special attention will be paid to the practical applications of semiconductors: how this technology is used to create high-precision ionising radiation detectors for science and medicine.
