“Absolute Future” in VBLHEP

Education, 02 February 2018

On 31 January 2018, participants of the MIPT Physical and Mathematical School “Absolute Future” visited the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics JINR. 35 students from Moscow, the Moscow region, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Perm, Ivanovo, Arkhangelsk, Irkutsk, Tyumen, St. Petersburg, and Shymkent became guests of the Institute.

VBLHEB Researcher D. Dryablov showed the students around the Laboratory. He delivered an introductory lecture on the NICA project and described the problems scientists plan to solve using the new accelerator complex. The guests had an opportunity to see the model of the future MPD detector and the Collider construction site from the roof of the legendary Synchrophasotron that has been a JINR symbol for over 60 years.

Later on, O.Kuchenko and D.Dryablov told about the synchrophasotron and introduced the VBLHEP operating facilities to the students, including the LU-20 linear accelerator, the new HILAC injector, and the superconducting accelerator Nuclotron.

At the end of the visit, O.Kazinova and A.Shemchuk described to the students main stages of the assembling and testing of superconducting magnets produced for the NICA complex.
