The ХХIII International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists and Specialists of JINR AYSS-2019 was held from 15 to 19 April 2019 in the Laboratory of Information Technologies JINR. More than 200 participants took part in the Conference, 140 of whom represented JINR, and 68 colleagues came from 33 universities and scientific centres of Armenia, Belarus, Chile, the Czech Republic, Germany, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Poland, Russia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovakia.

The programme of the Сonference included 9 lectures on topical issues of modern science. The lectures were delivered by FLNP Senior Researcher I. Zinkovskaya, BLTP Director D. I. Kazakov, FLNR Scientific Secretary A. V. Karpov, Representative of the MPD collaboration A. Kisiel, FLNR Senior Researcher V. Chudoba, FLNP Director V. N. Shvetsov (all from JINR), Academician V. A. Rubakov (INP RAS), Senior Researcher of the Samara University R. A. Eremin, FAIR Representative E. Lavrik (Germany).

With the support of LIT, a leading specialist in data analysis from the SAP SE company (Germany) Priv.-Doz., Dr A. I. Streltsov delivered a workshop “Deep and Machine Learning methods for document clustering and classification”. The workshop attracted more than 80 young scientists and specialists among whom there were participants of the Conference and students of the International IT School “Big Data Analytics” of the Dubna University. All lectures are available on the website stream.jinr.ru.

In their turn, participants of the event presented 126 oral reports in 8 sections. 25 JINR researchers evaluated them and selected the best ones.

This year, the poster session was held in the JINR Scientists’ Club. 40 poster reports were presented. Representatives of the organizing and programme committees noted reports made by Eva Adamska (Warsaw University) and Asel Nazarova (FLNP JINR).

Excursions to the JINR basic facilities evoked a vivid interest among participants of the Conference. D. Dryablov, M. Shandov, K. Shevchenko, and A. Shemchuk presented the NICA accelerating complex to participants in the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics. In the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, A. Voinov and K. Gikal guided an excursion around a new accelerator DC-280, and I. Zinkovskaya introduced to the participants of the Conference the IBR-2 reactor in the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics.

As usual, the Conference was held in a friendly atmosphere thus allowing its participants to meet colleagues from different countries and discuss results of their research.

I would like to note that the AYSS Conference is the major event organized by AYSS. The Conference allows young scientists and specialists of JINR to not only gain experience in presenting their work but also to take part in organization of this large-scale scientific event.

On behalf of the AYSS Council, I express deep gratitude to Aidos Issadykov (co-chairman of the organizing committee), Alexey Aparin, Svetlana Gertsenberger, Olga Derenovskaya, Anton Dolzhikov, Inna Kolesnikova, Olga Korotchik, Dmitry Pugachev, Anna Rybakova, Konstantin Khramko, Andrey Shemchuk for their commitment to joint work.
