CERN-JINR Collaboration: status and prospects

On 25 April 2017, a Meeting devoted to the cooperation of CERN and JINR was held in Geneva. CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti opened the meeting, describing the current activities of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). JINR Director Victor Matveev presented the new Seven-Year Plan for the Development of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research 2017–2023 and spoke about the main directions and prospects of the JINR advanced research.

Participants of the meeting also heard a report of Director for Research and Computing Eckhard Elsen on current experiments at CERN and the status of computing. The report of VBLHEP Director Vladimir Kekelidze was devoted to the current status of the mega-science project NICA. In conclusion of the meeting the participants discussed the status of the CERN-JINR partnership and possibilities of renewal and extension of protocols on cooperation between organizations. During the Meeting, the parties discussed the details of participation of the joint Institute in CERN experiments at the LHC Collider, as well as prospects and opportunities of CERN participation in the NICA mega-project.

On the CERN side the meeting was also attended by Frédérick Bordry – Director for Accelerators and Technology, Martin Steinacher – Director for Finance and Human Resources, Charlotte Warakaulle – Director for International Relations, Tadeusz Kurtyka and Christoph Schäfer – Advisors for Eastern Europe. The JINR side was also represented by Grigory Trubnikov – Deputy Minister of Science and Education of the Russian Federation, Richard Lednický – Vice-Director of JINR, Alexander Sorin -JINR Chief Scientific Secretary, Alexander Vodopianov – VBLHEP Deputy Director, Dmitry Peshekhonov — VBLHEP Scientific Secretary and Vladimir Karjavine – JINR representative at CERN.
